Frequently Asked Questions
Most of our clients are not typically an expert in glass block windows, shower walls, panel fabrication or installation – and that’s okay. That’s why we’re here! Don’t worry, you’re not the only one with questions. Here is a list of some of the common questions (and answers) customers ask us. We welcome your questions and comments, so keep them coming!
How far does Security Glass Block travel to do installations?
Although most of our jobs are within a 20 – 30 mile radius of our facility (one mile south of the Zoo Interchange), we have installed glass block windows in Madison, Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, and Chicago. Depending on the scope of your project, we will happily consider traveling outside our typical radius.
Do I need to leave one of my basement windows without a glass block for egress and code compliance?
If your basement is used as a bedroom, the Wisconsin Department of Commerce Uniform Building Codes (21.03 (5) par. B) requires that there be a provision for escape in the event of a fire. If, however, your basement is not used as a bedroom, you may install glass block windows in all the openings.
Is it necessary to put air vents in my basement windows?
Although it is not required to install any air vents in basement windows, we strongly recommend that you order at least a couple of the windows with air vents as a way to provide cross-ventilation should you ever need outside air in the basement. It also provides the ability to get a hose into the basement should an unfortunate event such as flooding of sewer backup among other potential disasters.
If a single glass block is broken, is the entire window ruined?
Absolutely not! Don’t let other companies tell you that the entire window needs to be replaced. If a stone from a snow blower or lawnmower, a hammer blow by a vandal, or another random event breaks a single block in a window, we can remove the broken block and install a new block in the opening. There are situations where it makes more financial sense to replace the entire window but give us a call and we can have a conversation and talk about your specific situation to offer the best options for overall value.
How long have your installers worked for Security Glass Block?
Security Glass Block employs veteran crews of full-time installers who are led by our Installation Manager, as a team we have more than two decades of experience working with these materials as a top rated glass block supplier Milwaukee knows and trusts. Please read our reviews! Our crews are professional, courteous, and exemplify the core values that we live by: Trustworthy, Accountability, Hardworking, Teamwork, and Coachable.
Are your installers employees of Security Glass Block or subcontractors?
While we are the highest and most reviewed glass block supplier Milwaukee can offer you, in addition all of our installation technicians are full-time employees of Security Glass Block. We do not use any subcontractors to install our glass block windows or panels. There are times when we may recommend a Master Carpenter or Contractor from another trade on a project, but our customers contact and work with these contractors directly. They are not subcontractors of Security Glass Block.
Is Security Glass Block insured?
Absolutely! We are fully insured and can provide a Certificate of Insurance when requested.
Are glass block windows maintenance-free?
Yes. If a glass block window, shower wall, or panel is fabricated / assembled and installed properly, the only thing you will need to do (if you chose to!) is to wipe the inside of the blocks with a glass cleaner and spray dirt off the outside using a garden hose. We like to keep our own squeaky clean to stay presentable! We are not the highest and most reviewed glass block supplier Milwaukee has for no reason.
What kind of warranty do you offer?
Security Glass Block guarantees all labor and materials for five years, this includes defects of material but excludes breakage due to vandalism, or accidents. This guarantee is specified at the bottom of all proposals and receipt forms.
Approximately how long will the job take to complete?
Although every job is unique, we have found that, on average, it takes us approximately 30 to 45 minutes per window to install glass block basement windows. It takes approximately one to two hours to install a bathroom window, and about the same amount of time to install an average garage window. The labor portion of your quote assumes a minimum of one hour on site.
Do you offer a payment plan?
We do not currently offer financing or payment plans. However, since we accept all major credit and debit cards (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover) you have thirty days to pay those charges to the credit card company without incurring interest charges if you choose to pay that way.
What type of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Having been a glass block supplier Milwaukee knows and trusts for years we pride ourselves on keeping our clients information safe and secure at all times.
Do I need to put any money down?
As a glass block supplier Milwaukee has known and trusted for years we do require a credit card on file when scheduling your job although there is no money taken or charges applied. If you prefer to pay via cash or check, you are welcome to pay the installers the day of your installation, otherwise, we will run the credit card on file once your installation is complete. We will install your project from start to finish before we expect to be paid for the work done.
Does anyone need to be home while my window(s) are being installed?
Yes. Although you may come and go while we are working on your home, someone must initially let us in and address any questions or concerns prior to the start of installation.
Does anyone need to be home in order for Security Glass Block to measure my window(s) for a quote?
No. Many of our customers work during the day and cannot be home during the day when our team is quoting your project. That is not an issue as we are able to accurately measure more than 95 percent of the jobs from the outside of the house. Most of the time, the only time we need to get inside your home for a quote, is when we are measuring a second story window. The measurements are then brought back to the office, where we develop a detailed price quote. We will then present you the quote, along with a detailed explanation of our process and the products we offer as a glass block supplier Milwaukee, usually the proposal will be complete the very next day after we take the measurements.
